Gamma Complete Tutorial: Create a Full Presentation with One Sentence and Even Make a Website
Last Wednesday night at 9 pm, a client suddenly asked me to submit a 12-page proposal presentation by 10 am the next day. In the past, I would have had to stay up all night to finish the layout. But that day, I opened Gamma, pasted the outline in my mind, clicked generate, and about 40 seconds later, a complete presentation with a cover, layout, and illustrations appeared on the screen. The time I spent afterwards was mostly on "revising" rather than "creating".
This is the reason why Gamma is worth learning: it eliminates the most time-consuming task of "creating from scratch". You no longer stare at a blank slide, but start with a draft that is 70-80% complete. For people who often need to rush to create presentations, proposals, or product introduction pages, this starting point makes a big difference. Below, I will explain the actual operation process, advanced techniques, and limitations that you may really encounter.
What is Gamma
Gamma is an AI presentation and website generation tool. You give it a piece of text, an outline, a topic, or even a URL, and it will produce a complete content with a well-designed layout, color scheme, and illustrations. Its core is different from traditional PowerPoint or Google Slides: instead of giving you a blank page to fill in, it uses a card-based layout that you can scroll through, like editing a file that automatically adjusts the layout.
In September 2025, Gamma released version 3.0, which introduced the "Gamma Agent" AI design assistant. It connects to over 20 AI models to generate text, images, and decide on the layout. You can use conversation to ask it to make changes, such as "make the fifth page more visual" or "change the tone of the entire presentation to a more corporate style", and it will apply the changes to the entire presentation without requiring you to manually adjust each page.
What it can help you with
To put it simply, Gamma is best at turning "I have ideas but no time to layout" into a finished product. I often use it for the following tasks:
- Proposal presentations: write down the client's requirements and product selling points in an outline, generate it, and have it ready for a meeting on the same day.
- Internal reports: paste a lengthy meeting record or research summary into Paste mode, and it will help you reorganize it into a clean card-based layout.
- Product introduction websites: with the same content, Gamma can output it as a presentation or a one-page website, saving you the trouble of redoing it.
- Teaching materials: it can insert images, videos, tables, accordion blocks, and image libraries, making the content more than just plain text.
If you usually use ChatGPT or Claude to think out the content first and then layout it with Gamma, this combination will be very smooth.
How to use it: steps from scratch
Step 1: Register and three generation routes
Register for an account on gamma.app, and the free plan will suffice. New accounts will be given 400 credits. Note that these 400 credits will not be reset every month, so use them wisely - generating a complete presentation will consume about 40 credits, so don't waste them on unnecessary trials.
After logging in, click "Create new", and you will see three options, which are the entry points for the entire tool:
- Generate (from prompt): you only give a sentence or an outline, and Gamma will help you write and layout from scratch. Most suitable when you only have a concept and no content.
- Paste in text: you already have notes, drafts, or a complete file, paste it in, and let it reorganize the layout. Most suitable for converting reports or research summaries into presentations.
- Import: upload a PDF, file, or existing presentation file, and Gamma will re-layout and generate it.
Step 2: Write a good prompt
When using the Generate route, the more specific the prompt, the better. I have tested it, and it's better to type "create a 12-page presentation introducing the benefits of solar energy for small and medium-sized enterprises, including costs, government subsidies, and case studies" instead of just "solar energy presentation". You can also specify the number of pages, and Gamma will generate accordingly.
If you're struggling to come up with a prompt, you can refer to the prompt library on the site for inspiration.
Step 3: Choose a theme and color scheme
After generation, click the Theme button (color palette icon) in the top toolbar, and a panel will pop up:
- Preset themes: existing color schemes and font combinations.
- Smart themes: describe the style you want in a sentence, such as "clean and simple, with deep blue accents", and let AI generate the theme.
- Custom themes: manually set brand colors and fonts to create a custom style.
Step 4: Modify with Gamma Agent
This is the most useful part of version 3.0. Instead of clicking through each page, you can talk to the Agent directly: "add a slide about the introduction schedule after page 7", "change this presentation to a more corporate style", or "add a competitive comparison section". It will make precise local modifications without regenerating the entire presentation, so you won't lose the adjustments you made earlier.
Step 5: Export
Once you're satisfied, click Export in the top right corner, and you can choose to export as PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF. Both free and paid plans can export, but the free plan will add a watermark to the exported file, so be prepared for that.
Advanced techniques
1. Use Paste mode to create a skeleton, then let Agent add flesh. I usually paste my written outline into Paste mode to define the structure, generate it, and then ask Agent to add images, data, or other elements to individual pages. This approach consumes fewer credits than generating the entire presentation at once and then making major changes.
2. Use Smart theme to describe the brand tone. If your company doesn't have a existing template, describing the style in a sentence (like "technological, black background, bright green accents") is usually faster than trying out each preset theme.
3. Dual output for the same content. For the same content, try outputting it as a website. After a proposal presentation, you often need a shareable link version, and Gamma can save you the trouble of redoing it.
4. Treat credits like money. As mentioned earlier, the 400 credits don't reset, so make sure to write a good prompt before generating, and avoid regenerating the entire presentation multiple times, which will consume credits quickly.
Precautions and limitations
Honestly, I've encountered a few issues. First, the free version exports with a watermark, which is almost always a problem for formal external presentations, so you'll likely need to upgrade to a paid plan. Second, credits are consumed faster than you think, and new users often burn through their credits quickly by regenerating the entire presentation multiple times because they're not satisfied. Third, generated images are sometimes not accurate enough, especially when you need to insert specific products or characters, and AI-generated images may not work, so you'll often need to replace them with real materials. Fourth, the layout is card-based, which is different from traditional PPT logic, and when you export it as .pptx and make further changes in PowerPoint, the layout may break, so it's best to make all adjustments within Gamma before exporting.
Additionally, Gamma's generated text is an AI draft, so you must verify the data, cases, and references yourself and not just accept them as is before sending them out.
TheAI Academy Review
Review: Gamma is the tool we currently most recommend for the "frequent presentation" crowd, as it truly solves the problem of layout being a time sink. The Gamma Agent in version 3.0 makes conversational modification very practical, and the ability to make local changes without regenerating the entire presentation has a significant impact on the workflow. The drawbacks are the watermark on the free version and the non-resetting credits, which almost necessitate a paid plan for serious use. For those who want to quickly produce content and are willing to spend a few minutes on post-editing, it's very worthwhile. For design teams that require precise control over each page and strict brand guidelines, it's a starting point tool, not a finishing point.
If you're building your own AI workflow, you can consider using Gamma along with Canva - the former quickly generates a skeleton, while the latter refines the visual aspects. Frequently Asked Questions
Gamma
Gamma Agent
